Humans remains found outside La Grande determined to be male

UNION COUNTY — The human skeletal remains found near La Grande in October 2024 belonged to a man of an undetermined ethnicity.

The case remains ongoing, the Union County Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday, Feb. 25, but the forensic anthropologist with the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office determined the man was between the ages of 25 and 45. He is estimated to have been between 5 feet 6 inches to 6 feet tall.

The Union County Major Crimes Team open an investigation after the incomplete remains were found on Oct. 20 outside La Grande.

The Union County District Attorney’s Office reached out to neighboring counties and requested missing person cases, according to the press release. So far, of the counties that have responded, there are no matching cases.

Examiners collected evidence of previous dental work.

“If there is a possible identification to the subject then dental records can be utilized,” the release said.
