KLAMATH FALLS — Former Baker girls basketball standout Jozie Ramos has embraced her bigger role at the Oregon Institute of Technology, becoming the Owls’ leading scorer over the past month.

Since previous leading scorer Gabbie Gascon suffered a season-ending knee injury on Jan. 25 against Eastern Oregon, Ramos, a sophomore, has led the Owls in scoring in seven of 11 games, including a career-high 32 in OIT’s 69-52 win over Corban University in a Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament quarterfinal game Wednesday, Feb. 26, in Klamath Falls. Ramos scored 10 of the Owls’ first 12 points.

Ramos was the first OIT player to top 30 points since 2017, and just the seventh in program history to score at least 32 in a game.

Ramos, who led the Bulldogs to the Class 4A state title in March 2023 and was named Class 4A player of the year, was also a major contributor to the Oregon Tech team as a freshman in 2023-24.

Ramos, who scored more than 1,500 points during her four-year career at BHS, has started 28 of 29 games this season at OIT, where she is studying nuclear medical technology.

She is averaging a team-high 14.1 points per game, and 14.4 points in conference games. Ramos averaged 19.8 points per game in nine games during February. Among Owls with more than 10 field goal attempts, Ramos has the highest percentage, making 54.8% of her shots. She’s also shooting 69% from the free throw line and is third on the team in rebounds with an average of 5.9 per game. Ramos leads the Owls with 37 blocked shots.

Oregon Tech is 23-6 on the season and 18-4 in conference games. After the win over Corban, the Owls will play Lewis-Clark State in a semifinal Saturday, March 1, at 7 p.m, in Klamath Falls. The championship game will be March 4.

The NAIA tournament starts March 14.
