- Powder Valley's Kellee Dixon goes for two points against Pine Eagle on Feb. 20, 2025, in the first day of the district 1A basketball tournament in Baker City.
Powder Valley’s girls basketball team traveled most of the way across Oregon but the Badgers showed no ill effects from the 450-mile trip, beating Mapleton 49-36 on Tuesday evening, Feb. 25, to advance to the second round of the Class 1A playoffs.
Mapleton is near Florence.
Janie Bingham led the Badgers with 17 points. Kellee Dixon had 16.
The Badgers will play Union in a second-round game on Feb. 28 at 6 p.m., with a berth in the state tournament March 5-8 at Baker High School.
Union, the top seed in the playoffs, routed Eddyville Charter 75-21 in a first-round game Tuesday.
That means a much shorter journey for Powder Valley for the second round, less than 20 miles on Highway 237.
Union won both regular season games against Powder Valley, 46-33 and 55-36.
