Anthony Lakes’ annual veterans appreciate day draws biggest crowd on record

The 10th-annual Veterans Appreciation Ski Day at Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort on Monday, Feb. 24, brought the biggest crowd in the event’s history, with almost 300 people, including veterans and their families, gathering at the ski area in the Elkhorn Mountains northwest of Baker City.
Anthony Lakes cooked about 300 burgers, gave 225 lift tickets, provided 25 skiing or snowboarding lessons and gave 35 veterans and their relatives who don’t ski a ride to the top of the mountain in the resort’s snowcat, said Chelsea Judy, marketing director for Anthony Lakes.
Among the snowcat passengers was Ken Anderson of Baker City, a 98-year-old World War II veteran.
