Law enforcement officials honored at banquet in Baker City

Several local law enforcement officers were awarded during the Baker and Union Counties Law Enforcement Recognition Banquet Thursday, Feb. 20, in Baker City.
The Lifesaving Award was awarded to people and agencies involved in a medical call on Black Mountain where it was reported that the victim had had a leg amputated. Ultimately, the man was flown to a Boise hospital where doctors saved his leg.
Recipients of that award included: Dawson Vanderwiele and Kayla Kelley, dispatchers with the Baker County Sheriff’s Office, Powder River and Keating rural fire protection districts, and the Baker County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team.

• Greg Walker DUII Enforcement trooper of the year: Trooper Cody Bennett, Oregon State Police, Baker City work site
• Traffic safety trooper of the year: Trooper Talon Colton, Oregon State Police, Baker City work site
• Instructor of the year: Detective Jesse Webb, Oregon State Police, La Grande Area Command
• Officer of the year Dedication to Duty: Officer Mark Powell, Baker City Police Department
• Critical incident support of the year: Oregon Department of Transportation, Baker maintenance crew
• Community partner of the year: Chief Buzz Harper, Keating Rural Fire Protection District
• Supervisor of the year: Sgt. Eric Colton, Baker County Sheriff’s Office
• Division of the year: Oregon State Police, Baker City work site patrol division
• Administrative support of the year: Ashley McClay, Baker County Sheriff’s Office
