LA GRANDE — The Baker/Powder Valley boys wrestling team finished seventh at the district tournament Saturday, Feb. 22, at La Grande High School.

Baker’s Aldo Duran qualified for the state tournament, Feb. 27-March 1, for the third straight year. He is seeded sixth and will wrestle River Sandstrom of Philomath in the first round.

Duran won his first two matches to advance to the semifinals at 120 pounds to advance to the semifinals. Duran lost his semifinal match, 9-7, to Duke Wentzel of Crook County. Duran then pinned Alexander Clark of Ontario to advance to the third-place match against Justin England of Crook County. Duran pinned England in the second period to place third and qualify for the state tournament for the third straight year.

Duran placed third at state in 2024, and fourth in 2023.

Roman Zickgraf, at 144 pounds, won his first match, lost his second, then has won three straight matches, all by pin, to advance to the third-place match. Zickgraf lost the match to Shane Anderson of Crook County, 5-3. Zickgraf, who has reached his daily limit of six matches, had to return Sunday to wrestle for fourth place and a berth at state.

Zickgraf lost by 8-3 decision to Cash Paullus of Pendleton in the fourth-place match on Sunday.
