It was a frigid week in Baker County, with two low temperature records broken at the Baker City Airport. The temperature plummeted to 22 below zero on Feb. 12, the latest in the year for a temperature that low at the airport.

The Baker City Council plans to set up a working group, involving councilors and local residents, to talk about long-term solutions to the problem of where to impound dogs that are picked up by police. In the short term, City Manager Barry Murphy is working with the Baker Veterinary Clinic to potentially replace the Animal Clinic of Baker, which had served as the impound facility for more than 20 years but has withdrawn from its contract with the city.

The Baker County Library District board of directors will consider updating the district’s policy regarding service dogs allowed in libraries.
