The Baker City Kiwanis Club honored Baker High students Eowyn Smith and Kara Regan on Feb. 11 as part of the club’s student recognition project.
The students were honored at a school assembly, and received a certificate and $50 from the Kiwanis Club.
Smith, a senior, was nominated by Robert Barrington.
“What truly sets Eowyn apart is her character,” Barrington wrote. “She is affable, adventurous, and genuinely kind, inspiring those around her with her optimism and unwavering support. Her ability to balance her many commitments while remaining a thoughtful and considerate person speaks volumes about her maturity and sense of responsibility.”
He said Smith is a role model at the school.
“She is the student who quietly helps a struggling peer, who volunteers without being asked, and who perseveres through challenges with grace and determination,” Barrington said. “Her actions, driven by genuine care for others and a desire to grow, speak louder than any award ever could.”
Regan was nominated by Angie Johnson.
“Kara Regan is a student who always puts in her best effort no matter the task,” Johnson wrote. “She exhibits the characteristics of a life-long learner, making sure she understands the material and is not just checking things off a list to get a grade. She is kind to her peers and goes out of her way to make sure everyone feels included.”
She said Regan is thoughtful of both students and staff at the school.
“Kara is a student who is respectful and kind to everyone she contacts in our building,” she wrote. “She looks for the best in people and is always trying to find a way to make sure everyone feels valued and included. She is willing to work with any group of students in which she is assigned and always does her share of the work.”
