OpenGov expands AI capabilities with latest acquisition for “no-code” workflows, forms, and custom applications

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — OpenGov, the leader in AI-enabled software for local and state governments, has acquired Ignatius, a dynamic low-code platform that automates public sector forms and workflows and enables the creation of custom-built applications. This marks OpenGov’s 10th acquisition in service of its mission to power more effective and accountable government.

“We’re excited to partner with the talented entrepreneurs at Ignatius to accelerate the adoption of AI and automation in government,” said Zac Bookman, co-founder and CEO of OpenGov. “The next great wave of innovation is unfolding with AI, and it will impact everything—from the way we work to the way governments interact with their residents. This investment marks a significant step in our journey to bring high-performance government to every community.”

Ignatius is an AI company trusted by state and local agencies for grants management, disaster preparedness and recovery, infrastructure banking and loan compliance, scholarship tracking, broadband funding, and other federal and state program administration. The platform’s AI capabilities enable OpenGov to accelerate its support of public administrators tackling unique and complex initiatives with highly configurable software. This includes the ability to rapidly generate custom and secure government apps using natural language prompts and AI inferencing capabilities. Mark Della Volpe, founder of Ignatius, will lead the advancement of this product line, and Graeme Ownjazayeri, COO of Ignatius, will oversee its solution architecture, partner network, and customer success.

In addition to this acquisition, OpenGov has recently introduced a series of AI-powered features across multiple product lines:

  • Procurement: Tools to automate scope-of-work drafting, solicitation assembly, and supplier discovery
  • Asset Management: Real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance of public infrastructure, alongside computer vision-powered asset health identification
  • Budget Management: AI-native search capabilities to surface instant and contextual budget insights
  • Permitting & Licensing: An AI-powered communication command center that connects officials with permit applicants, contractors, and residents

“In order to feel confident using AI, public servants need to trust the technology and trust the people building the technology,” said Ammiel Kamon, Chief Strategy Officer of OpenGov. “At OpenGov, we have built trust with our 2,000+ customers for more than a decade by partnering with them beyond implementation, overcommunicating through challenges, and fostering a community of forward-thinking change-makers and leaders.”
