An Idaho man who asked a BLM law enforcement ranger for help jumpstarting his car in a park near Huntington on Monday, Jan. 27, ended up with a ride to the Baker County Jail where he was booked on a warrant charging him with multiple crimes in his home state.

Stancley Arthur Karczewski, 64, of Burley, Idaho, is charged in Minidoka County, Idaho, with possession of a controlled substance, resisting or obstructing police officers and fleeing or attempting to flee from a police officer in a motor vehicle.

An Idaho judge issued an arrest warrant for Karczewski on Jan. 21.

According to a probable cause affidavit written by Stephanie Cox, a law enforcement ranger for the BLM, she was patroling on Monday afternoon about 2:30 p.m. when she saw what appeared to be a disabled vehicle in the upper parking lot of Spring Recreation Site, along Brownlee Reservoir about 3 miles northeast of Huntington.

A BLM manager had reported the vehicle, with one occupant, earlier in the day.

Cox wrote that when she arrived, Karczewski got out of the vehicle, told her he needed help and asked if she could jump start his car with the jumper cables he offered.

Cox checked his name through Baker County Dispatch and learned about the arrest warrant from Idaho.

She then arrested him and drove him to the Baker County Jail.
