The lack of volunteer drivers has imperiled the van shuttle that brings Baker County veterans to medical appointments in the Boise area. A public request from Dani Huck, who coordinates the Disabled American Veterans van service, recruited one volunteer, but Huck is hoping for more to avoid ending the shuttle service.

The first significant snowstorm of the season resulted in several commercial trucks spinning out on Interstate 84 at the base of Ladd Canyon, leading to a 3-hour closure of the freeway’s eastbound lanes on the morning of Dec. 16.

Thirty-one local students, in grades 2 through 4, filled their Christmas gifts lists, for themselves and their families, during the annual Shop with a Cop event on Dec. 13.

Jesse Brown, a professional steer wrestler from Baker City, posted the fastest time during the 10-day National Finals Rodeo on the final night of the event in Las Vegas and finished sixth in the world standings for the season.
