About 70 people gathered at the new Baker Middle School cafeteria on the evening of Nov. 14 to talk about the future of health care in Baker County, in the wake of the 2023 closures of the ICU and birthing center at Saint Alphonsus Medical Center-Baker City, the county’s only hospital.

A project designed to collect oral stories about movies filmed in Oregon visited Baker City on Nov. 12 to hear from local residents about the summer of 1968, when the musical “Paint Your Wagon” was filmed in Baker County.
