- The 2024 Capitol Christmas tree stopped in Baker City on Nov. 8, 2024, on its 4,000-mile journey from Alaska to Washington, D.C.
The Alaskan spruce that will grace the U.S. Capitol this Christmas season made its only Oregon stop on its long journey in Baker City on Friday morning, Nov. 8. A crowd turned out to see the tree on its special truck.

A special program in Baker County Circuit Court gives people with mental health and addiction problems a chance to have their sentences reduced or criminal charges dismissed if they complete a one-year program that requires that they attend treatment and make frequent visits to court to talk with Judge Matt Shirtcliff.
