Baker County could be one of the sites for producing “clean” hydrogen fuel by separating water into its constituent elements, hydrogen and oxygen. The fuel could be used in vehicles. The proposed site is Ash Grove Cement Company’s Durkee cement plant.

Baker City Police Chief Ty Duby talked about his decision to resume 24-hour police patrols on Sept. 23. The department stopped patrolling between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. daily in December 2023 due to a lack of officers. Duby said the staffing situation has improved but is still not ideal.

A Baker City couple is asking a judge to dismiss a condemnation lawsuit that Idaho Power Company filed against them earlier this year, seeking an easement across their land for the Boardman-to-Hemingway power transmission line.
