Although the Baker City Herald no longer publishes a print paper (although the Herald contributes multiple stories each week to the Wednesday issue of the East Oregonian, which serves as the regional print paper for EO Media Group), the Herald continues to cover Baker High School and other local high school sports teams at www.bakercityherald.com.
The fall sports season is well underway, and the Herald’s website has more than half a dozen stories about volleyball, cross-country, soccer and football.

Three juveniles have been charged with arson in the May 22 fire that gutted Baker City’s historic Central Building and led to its demolition.

On the first day a new Oregon law took effect giving police the option to refer people they find with small amounts of illegal drugs to a “deflection program” that includes required addiction treatment, Baker County had one person referred to its fledgling program.

The relentless heat of the summer of 2024 is continuing into the season’s final few weeks, with the temperature topping 90 degrees on six of the first seven days of September. The year has broken one of the few heat records it hadn’t already obliterated — the number of days with a high of 90 or above. The previous record was 47 days, set in 2021. The 2024 total is now at 51.
