A group of Baker City residents wants to restart the local Young Life program, a Christian outreach ministry for middle school and high school students, said Bryan Dalke, who became involved in Young Life around 2015 when his daughter, Kaylee, was in middle school.
There was an active Young Life group in Baker City for more than a decade.
Dalke said the group continued until the pandemic, but hasn’t restarted since.
He said he started meeting a couple years ago with other Young Life proponents, Kathie and Greg Pointer, Betty Jo Wood and Beth Shirtcliff, to discuss reviving the local group.
Recently, Ken Purnell, who works with a Young Life group in Dallas, Oregon, west of Salem, agreed to help with the effort to resume Young Life in Baker City, Dalke said.
Purnell will make a presentation during a pair of meetings, Sunday, Aug. 18 at 5 p.m. and Monday, Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. Both meetings will be in the library at Baker Middle School, at Fourth Street and Washington Avenue.
“Hopefully there’s enough interest to get something going,” Dalke said.
