The Sumpter Valley Railroad will run trains with the diesel engine on Aug. 10 and Aug. 11.

SUMPTER — After a hiatus due to the high fire danger, the Sumpter Valley Railroad is planning to run trains, with a diesel engine, on Aug. 10 and Aug. 11.

The round-trip rides leave McEwen Station at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. both days and travel to Sumpter and back.

A fire train and crew will run behind the main train, and railroad volunteers have been clearing extra debris from along the tracks, said Kim Svaty, a spokesperson for the railroad.

Tickets must be reserved in advance at sumptervalleyrailroad.org.

The website is also the place to find information about the railroad’s special events, such as train robberies, special runs during Sumpter’s flea market over Labor Day weekend, and themed trains for Halloween and Christmas.
