A California man who fled from Oregon State Police at speeds over 120 mph on July 4 on Interstate 84 near Baker City was later arrested in Umatilla County when OSP troopers were able to stop his vehicle.
James Castaneda, 34, of Colton, California, was charged with attempting to elude and reckless driving, according to an OSP report.
A trooper tried to stop the 2018 Subaru BRZ for multiple traffic violations about 4:27 p.m. on Interstate 84 near milepost 305 westbound, according to the report.
Castaneda “quickly eluded OSP at speeds over 120 mph,” the report states. “OSP did not pursue the vehicle in Baker County. The vehicle continued to drive recklessly until troopers in Umatilla County were able to use pursuit halting techniques to stop the vehicle.”
Castaneda was arrested and taken to the Umatilla County Jail.
The Subaru BRZ is a two-door sports car that has a top speed of 144 mph, according to a review in Motor Trend magazine.
