HALFWAY — William “Billy” James is the new postmaster in Halfway.

James will manage the post offices in Halfway, Richland and Oxbow.

He has worked for the U.S. Postal Service for seven years, starting his career as a carrier in Sandy, east of Portland, according to a press release from the Postal Service.

He later worked as an occupational job instructor in Baker City. In his new job, he oversees seven employees, two rural routes and the three post offices.

“I lead from the front and would never ask an employee to do something that I wouldn’t do myself,” James said. “I’m looking forward to moving to Halfway, learning about the community and doing my part in serving it.”

James and his wife have three children. They enjoy kayaking, camping and traveling.
