A Huntington woman is accused of spitting in the face of a sergeant from the Baker County Sheriff’s Office after he arrested her for allegedly throwing a cellphone and hitting another man in the face.
Haley Anna Murray, 32, is accused of fourth-degree assault and aggravated harassment in the incident that happened on the evening of May 30 at a home on Malheur Line Road west of Huntington.
According to a probable cause affidavit written by Sgt. Craig Rilee, he responded to a 911 call, about 6:22 p.m. on May 30, from a woman who said she was on a dirt road and that she had been hit in the head.
After two more calls from the same person in the next 10 minutes or so, dispatchers pinpointed the location.
According to Rilee’s affidavit, the caller said she was Haley Murray. A dispatcher said Murray sounded “intoxicated.”
Rilee wrote that he found Murray walking along Malheur Line Road. She told Rilee she had an argument with people she lives with.
Rilee then drove to the home on Malheur Line Road and talked with people living there.
They told Rilee said Murray, during an argument, had grabbed a cellphone and thrown it at a man who lives in the home. The phone hit the man in above his left eye, causing a cut that bled.
Rilee wrote that he arrested Murray, who refused to get into his patrol car. After he picked her up and put her in the rear set, and while he was securing her seatbelt, she spat at him twice, “the spittle landed on my forehead.”
Rilee drove Murray to the Baker County Jail. She was later released. She is scheduled to enter a plea to the two charges on July 1 in Baker County Circuit Court.
