A Boise man driving an armored Loomis truck drove off Highway 26 northwest of Unity on Tuesday evening, May 28, and he had to be extricated from the truck before being taken by Life Flight to a Bend hospital, where he was in critical condition on Wednesday afternoon.
Nathan Thomas McFarlane, 24, was driving east on the highway near the Blue Mountain Summit, about 12 miles northwest of Unity and about nine miles east of Austin Junction.
McFarlane went off the westbound shoulder on a corner, and the armored truck hit multiple trees around 5 p.m., according to an Oregon State Police report.
One tree landed on the highway, blocking both lanes.
The passenger, Eric Wayne Singleton, 40, of Caldwell, Idaho, was also injured and was taken by ambulance to Blue Mountain Hospital in John Day.
Singleton’s condition was immediately available.
Loomis sent employees to retrieve the truck’s contents, according to the OSP report.
