The school board on Tuesday, May 21, approved the hiring of Mitch Neilson, who has been director of finance and operations for the Scappoose School District in Oregon since July 2014.

Neilson will replace Regima Sampson, who announced in April that she planned to leave her position at the end of the school year.

“I look forward to joining Baker School District and leading the Finance team to help the district realize its overall goals through tangible objectives,” Neilson said.

Prior to his role at Scappoose, Neilson managed emergency services and training programs for the city of Hillsboro from 2008-14.

He also taught marketing and accounting at Parkrose High School in Portland from 2003-8.

Casey Hallgarth, the Baker School District’s new superintendent, said he is “really excited to work with Mr. Neilson. Our interview panel was impressed by the depth of his experience, and he brings a skill set to the district that will keep us on a path to greater excellence,” Hallgarth said.
