Jason Morgan, who grew up in Baker County and graduated from Burnt River High School in Unity in 1997, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 2002, his motivation the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Morgan served in Iraq and in Cuba with the U.S. Navy. After leaving the military he began to suffer from anxiety attacks and other effects of post-traumatic stress disorder. He didn’t like the way medications affected him.

But then Morgan learned about Service Peace Warriors, a Washington organization that trains service dogs to help veterans deal with PTSD. Since Morgan met Bosa, a male Rottweiler, in January 2022, his life has changed, and improved. Morgan, who returned to Baker City in October 2023, talked about how his relationship with Bosa has changed his life.

Police have charged a Baker City man with animal abandonment for alleging leaving five dogs near a mountain pass about 40 miles southwest of Baker City. All five dogs were rescued.

The Oregon National Guard unit that includes soldiers from Baker City was honored with a an award for its service in Iraq during 2010-11.

Baker High School’s boys golf team, which includes four members of the team that won the state basketball title in March, could bring home another trophy from the state golf tournament May 13-14 after dominating the district tournament May 6-7 at Quail Ridge Golf Course in Baker City. The Bulldogs are the defending state champions.
