Dear Baker City Council:

Why are we are revisiting the marijuana odor ordinance debacle? This inane idea was thoroughly quashed years ago when Wyn Lohner was chief of police. To create an ordinance because of one or two complaints, out of a population of 10,000, seems unnecessary and irresponsible. The can of worms that would be unleashed is every lawyer’s dream. I wrote a letter to the Herald back when and will reiterate. I make my own beer and the smell of the mash gives my wife heartburn, but we have yet to seek legal advice on the odor that surrounds Barley Brown’s on brew day. There are many odors out there that are offensive to specific persons. I would tread very carefully before creating a new problem/ordinance because of one or two citizens. This is an endless slippery slope in the making. Sounds like the perpetrators are taking the responsible steps toward resolving the issue, the last thing we need in this world are more laws and/or lawsuits.
