BAKER TENNIS: Bulldogs take on Vale, Pendleton

Baker’s tennis teams played host to Pendleton on April 23 and to Vale on April 25, and six girls players traveled to Madras to compete against six other schools in the Steve Rankin Invitational tournament on April 27.
At Madras tournament, April 27
Two singles players and two doubles teams competed in the tournament, which also included Stayton, Cascade, Crook County, Henley, Madras and Sisters.
The format had each singles player and doubles team play seven games against each other school, for a total of 49 games (Madras had four singles players and four doubles teams).
The players and doubles teams with the most games won were the winners.
There were two divisions for singles and doubles.
In the number one doubles division, Baker’s team of Olivia Jacoby and Kaitlyn Schwin finished first with 41 games won.
Liz Timm finished first in the number two singles division with 39 games won.
Ludo Tricarico placed third in the number one singles division with 30 games won.
Jayden Whitford and Emy Myer placed fourth in the number two doubles division.
Baker won the overall team title.
“This tournament is a great experience to play different schools and learn how to play tennis all day with few breaks,” Baker coach Amy Younger said. “It’s valuable practice as we look ahead to the district tournament in May.”
vs. Vale, April 25
Baker swept the singles matches for both boys and girls.
In doubles, Baker dropped all matches except for the number two boys team of Brandon McCullough and Noah Lien.

“Pendleton has a large girls team, so all of our girls had the opportunity to play a match,” Younger said. “Pendleton is always a good challenge for us, and we came away with three wins in the boys matches, and five wins on the girls side.”
