CRANE — Baker Middle School won the boys and girls team titles at a track and field meet April 24 at Crane, and Baker athletes set three school records in the process.

Kate Norton broke her own eighth grade record in winning the shot put throw, and she broke a 36-year-old record in the discus.

Norton’s discus throw of 98 feet, 3 inches broke Kristie Gordy’s record of 95 feet, one-half inch, set in 1988.

Norton broke Sarah Swanson’s school record in the shot put, 36 feet, 9.5 inches, during the Wildcat Invite meet on April 12 with a throw of 41 feet, 6.5 inches. Norton bettered that mark with a heave of 43 feet, 3.5 inches at Crane.

Jake Holden broke the eighth-grade record in the 200-meter hurdles. Holden finished in 30.05 seconds, topping the record of 30.74 set by Conner Yates in 2009.

In the boys meet, Baker amassed 148.5 points to top second-place Four Rivers, with 115.5.

Bryson Petrucci won the 100- and 200-meter sprints, and he ran the anchor leg for Baker’s winning 4×100 relay team and the first leg for the winning 4×400 relay team.

In addition to winning the 200 hurdles, Holden won the javelin throw and tied with teammate Henry Gaslin for first in the high jump. Gaslin won the long jump.

Baker dominated the girls meet, scoring 216.33 points. Hines was second with 85 points.

Norton swept the throwing events — javelin, discus and shot put.

Remy Damschen won the triple jump, Molly Rasmussen won the 100, and Baker relay teams swept the 4×100 and 4×400 races.
