Baker City Police Chief Ty Duby and Baker High School officials said a reported threat of a school shooting by a student resulted from other students misconstruing what they saw when the student was shopping online, allegedly for weapons. Although there was no actual threat, school officials lauded the students for reporting their concern.

Baker sophomore Rasean Jones’ school record in the 300-meter hurdles race only lasted four days — because Jones broke his own record. After winning both hurdles races at the Class 4A state meet in 2023 as a freshman, Jones has run the fastest times in Oregon, for all high school levels, in 2024.

A Central Oregon woman accused of being intoxicated when she crashed her SUV into a school bus carrying 14 Baker FFA students on March 22 in Redmond has been arraigned on 26 misdemeanor charges, including reckless driving.
