Several women and girls showed up on a Saturday for a free class where they learned self-defense techniques. The event, one of two planned this year, was sponsored by MayDay Inc., the Baker City nonprofit that helps victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse.

Baker County commissioners have approved an agreement with the city of Richland to connect two county-owned parks, Hewitt and Holcomb, to the city’s water system. The well that supplies water to the parks has a high iron content that can stain clothes and cooking utensils.

A former longtime Baker High School choir teacher has reunited with many of his former students to create the Powder River choir, which will perform April 18 at BHS.

BHS sophomore Rasean Jones, who as a freshman won both hurdles races at the Class 4A state track meet, set a personal record, and broke a 41-year-old school record, in winning the 300-meter hurdles event during a three-school meet April 9 at Ontario.
