Baker City’s Barley Brown’s Brew Pub was named Regional Brewing Company of the Year for Eastern Oregon at the ninth-annual Oregon Beer Awards Thursday, April 4 in Portland.
The brewery, owned by Tyler Brown, celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2023.
Barley Brown’s, which also has a tap house on Main Street just across Church Street from the brew pub, has won dozens of awards in national beer competitions over the years.
Barley Brown’s sells draft beer exclusively, at its two locations in Baker City and at bars and restaurants around the Northwest.
The one exception was early in the pandemic in spring 2020, when the brewery had vats full of ale but no demand from its customers as restaurants and bars were closed or limited to takeout meals. Brown brought in a mobile canning operation rather than waste the beer.
Barley Brown’s typically brews a bit less than 5,000 barrels of beer each year, enough to fill almost 10,000 kegs.
