- A U.S. Postal Service truck is parked March 20, 2024, near the loading dock at post office in La Grande.
A new U.S. Postal Service policy is likely to delay the delivery of outgoing mail from many rural post offices in Northeastern Oregon. The policy eliminates one daily mail truck that previously picked up outgoing mail in the evening. Now, mail collected or dropped off for delivery during the day will sit in the post office overnight and go out on the one daily truck the next morning. The policy apparently doesn’t affect larger post offices in the region, including Baker City, although the Postal Service hasn’t publicly released an official list of affected offices.
