Veterans gather at Anthony Lakes for free ski day

- Occasional sunshine, and fresh powder snow, greeted veterans and their families who gathered at Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort for the annual veterans ski day on Feb. 27, 2024.
ANTHONY LAKES — Dozens of veterans, many accompanied by their families, gathered at Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort on Monday, Feb. 26 for the ski area’s annual Veterans Ski Day.

The resort was open only to veterans and their families for the day, and skiing and boarding, including lessons, were free.
About 250 people congregated at the ski area, said Chelsea Judy, marketing director for Anthony Lakes.
The weather cooperated, with alternating sunshine and snow showers, with 4 inches of fresh powder falling the night before.

About 150 people donned skis or snowboards, and the Anthony Lakes ski school donated 25 lessons, Judy said.
A veterans services vehicle from the federal Veterans Administration was also on hand to offer a variety of services to veterans.
