Oregon had its second-highest four-year high school graduation rate in 2023, and Baker High School’s rate exceeded the state average. Slightly more than 85% of students in the BHS class of 2023 graduated on time, according to the Oregon Department of Education.

A Baker City woman who was herself homeless at one time has found a permanent spot for the weekly event she started in December where she offers everyone a hot meal and warm clothing if they need it. Cristy Baird’s warming station event happens every Sunday afternoon at the MC Taco Bus in Baker City.

A new federal program that makes it easier for cattle ranchers and beef processors to have their products labeled as USDA choice, select or premium could be a big benefit by making cattle more valuable, some people in the ranching industry say. The pilot program allows beef to be graded remotely; previously, the cost for grading was prohibitively expensive for all but the larger processing facilities, according to industry experts.
