Baker City Police shoot suspect who brandished gun

Two Baker City Police officers shot and injured a man who brandished a gun at them early Tuesday morning, Jan. 2.
According to a press release, at about 2 a.m., two Baker City Police Department officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Clark and Church streets, which resulted in an officer involved shooting. The passenger brandished a firearm and was subsequently shot by officers.
The man received medical attention and is being treated at a Boise hospital.
Neither officer was injured, Baker County District Attorney Greg Baxter said.
Baxter said he wouldn’t release additional information now, including the name of the suspect who was shot, and the names of the two police officers. Baxter said he likely would release more details, including the suspect’s name, on Wednesday, Jan. 3.
The Baker County Major Crimes Team, consisting of Oregon State Police, Baker County Sheriff’s Office, Baker City Police Department and the Baker County District Attorney, has been activated. The scene has been secured, and there is no threat to the public.
A full investigation of the incident is being conducted by the Baker County Major Crimes Team.
As per policy, both officers have been placed on critical incident leave.
