Although the weather has felt more like fall or spring than winter, the Christmas spirit is palpable in Baker City thanks in part to the many expansive and creative displays of lights and decorations around town. The Herald compiled a list of several such displays suggested by commenters on our Facebook page. But it’s worth taking an hour or two some evening to tour all neighborhoods, perhaps with Christmas carols on the radio, to enjoy the shows.

Jesse Brown, a professional steer wrestler and Baker City native, finished his best professional season by placing second in overall time after the 10 rounds of the event’s biggest stage, the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.

U.S. Rep. Cliff Bentz, the Ontario Republican whose district includes Baker County, is urging the U.S. Supreme Court to hear two cases contesting the authority of U.S. presidents to declare or expand national monuments through the 1906 Antiquities Act, a method that doesn’t require or involve congressional approval.
