Letter: Findley should honor voters’ choice on Measure 113

I read with some amusement Sen. Lynn Findley’s announcement on Wednesday, Nov. 8, that he has decided not to seek another term.
Actually, we voters decided that for him last year with our overwhelming support (68%) for Ballot Measure 113, which bars lawmakers who accumulate more than 10 unexcused absences from serving another term. Sen. Findley is not eligible for another term because he chose to sit out more than six weeks of the 2023 legislative session.
Sen. Findley claims in his retirement announcement that serving his constituents has been an honor. If he really means it, he should drop his frivolous (and costly to taxpayers) lawsuit over the measure’s wording. Sen. Findley knows perfectly well what voters intended when they said “yes” to Measure 113, regardless of some minor wording flaws.
I sincerely hope Sen. Findley will finish his term by honoring our vote.
