BAKER BOYS SOCCER: Bulldogs bust through Fruitland defenders, win 5-1

The Baker boys soccer team started the season with a resounding 5-1 win over Fruitland on the Grizzlies’ home pitch Tuesday, Aug. 29.

Baker tied Fruitland 3-3 last season, so Tuesday’s victory is a measuring stick for the Bulldogs’ improvement under coach Victor Benites.

“A lot of talking, passing was good, going back and helping with defense, encouraging each other,” Benites said. “There were a lot of good things.”

Including those five goals.

Junior Jaron Long scored twice to lead the offensive onslaught. Senior midfielder Lizandro Rodriguez added a goal, team captain and midfielder Giacomo Rigueiro, also a senior, found the net on a free kick, and midfielder Alan Bedolla, a junior, landed a penalty kick to close the scoring.

Baker also won the JV game, 4-2.

Baker will start its home schedule with a pair of matches this weekend.

The Bulldogs will take on Mazama on Friday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. at the Sports Complex, then play Henley on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 11 a.m.

Both schools are from Klamath Falls.
