College volleyball: Mountaineers sweep Embry-Riddle to cap trip to Hawaii

HONOLULU, Hawaii — The Eastern Oregon University volleyball team is leaving Hawaii on a high note.

The Mountaineers went 3-0 at the Magic Island Hawaii Classic, defeating Embry-Riddle in straight sets at the team’s final game of the tournament on Saturday, Aug. 26. Eastern Oregon’s win improved the team’s record to 7-0 on the season.

In the first set, Embry-Riddle managed to keep things close and built an 11-11 tie with Eastern Oregon. The Mountaineers responded with a 7-0 run to take control of the set. Eastern Oregon won the final four consecutive points and took the first set 25-15.

Eastern Oregon build an early lead in the second set and never looked back. The Mountaineers went on a big run in the middle of the frame and held on to win 25-13.

In the third set, Eastern Oregon opened the frame with a 14-3 run to take a commanding lead. Embry-Riddle failed to make any late comeback and the Mountaineers went on to win 25-14 to take the match.

Sade Williams led the way with 15 kills, while Hannah Ledgerwood led the team with 12 digs and 24 assists. Mylie Mills tallied a team-high six blocks.

Coming up, Eastern Oregon will return home to La Grande to host Oregon Tech at 7 p.m. on Sept. 1.
