The Baker City Quilt Show is making a colorful return this weekend after a four-year hiatus.

The Baker City Quilt Club has sponsored the show for more than 30 years. It was canceled the previous three years due to the pandemic.

“Leaders of the local quilt club have now picked Friday and Saturday, August 18 and 19 as the perfect dates to offer local residents and scores of out-of-town visitors a bigger and better version of the traditional Baker City Quilt Show,” Rocky Morris, a longtime member of the Quilt Club, wrote in a letter to the Baker City Herald.

The show will take place in the Family Life Center at the Baker City Church of the Nazarene, 1250 Hughes Lane. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Quilts will be presented to military veterans each hour. There will be prizes for floor game winners and quilt raffles.

Admission is $5, and free for children younger than 12. Food and beverages will be available.

“Many of Baker’s most talented quilters will be exhibiting their artistry and several of the Northwest’s top vendors will be invited to the show,” Morris wrote. “They’ll help newcomers learn more about the centuries-old art of quilting and explain why it continues to be a popular hobby.”

The return of the quilt show coincides with the annual Baker City Show and Shine and Memory Cruise on Saturday, Aug. 19 at Geiser-Pollman Park.

“Wives and girlfriends sometimes don’t share their male companion’s enthusiasm for souped-up cars and the Baker City Quilt Show could give them a fun, educational and enjoyable option,” Morris wrote.

Morris has been a member of the Baker City Quilt Club for more than 30 years.

“The annual Baker City Quilt Show sponsored by our club for decades was a popular event that enabled us to provide many benefits to members of the armed forces and Baker County foster children,” Morris wrote.

She said on Monday, Aug. 14 that the club has been revitalized since the pandemic, with many new and energetic members.
