Letter to the editor for June 27, 2023

I sit here looking at the WWII Air Medal my uncle was awarded for repeatedly putting his life on the line behind German Nazi lines in Europe fighting fascism. All of us should be more than proud that people like my uncle were selflessly put their lives on the line to defeat the wrongness and hate of the fascists in Europe at that time. I can’t not say something as it has been eating at me for days.

Disturbing and shocking are words that comes to mind after what Matt Diaz and his totally wrong-headed actions have come to light. There is no gray area here. I read his letter of defense of his actions. This man simply does not have what it takes to be a leader, among other things.

I would hope that if he is the person he thinks he is, he would resign from the City Council and make personal and formal apologies to every single person he has offended. Yes, our freedoms mean he can post that hateful wrongness if he wishes; the ideology he was promoting would/does not allow that level of freedom. Shame on you, Mr. Diaz.
