- The Baker City Farmers Market will run June 1 through Oct. 12 on Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Central Park.
This year’s Baker City Farmers Market will look quite a lot like 2022 — and that’s just want the organizers want.
“We want to be consistent with location, date and time,” said Megan Foucht, president of the Baker City Farmers Market board.
The market begins June 1. It will be held every Thursday, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., in Central Park, just east of Resort Street.
Access the market through the parking lot off Resort Street, or walk into the park on the Leo Adler Memorial Parkway from Washington Street or Valley Avenue.
The market runs weekly through Oct. 12.
Last year, Foucht said they had an average of 13 vendors per market.
Throughout that season, they had 36 vendors for total sales of $46,889.
Foucht said the Baker City market is one of the smallest in the state, but ranks as number four when it comes to average spending per customer.
The market will again participate in Double Up Food Bucks, which matches SNAP funds up to $20.
For instance, if a customer spends $20 in SNAP benefits, the Double Up program provides another $20, in $2 increments, for fresh fruit, vegetables, mushrooms, dried beans and vegetable starts.
Foucht said the Baker City market has participated in the Double Up program since 2020.
“Since then, we’ve seen a 67% increase in the number of shoppers who are utilizing this program,” she said.
This year, the market is hiring for two positions — one market coordinator and one market administrator.
“Even though we’re a smaller market, we have the same administrative requirements as big markets,” she said.
Vendors can sign up for the entire 20-week season for $340, which works out to $17 per market.
The fee for daily vendors is $25.
Also, a young entrepreneur table is available for youth age 18 and younger to sell items without paying a vendor fee, and a community table will feature different organizations throughout the season.
A vendor application can be found online at bakercityfarmersmarket.com.
“We’d love to have more vendors,” Foucht said.
Although vendors can sign up at any time, she said early registration allows the market to advertise the week’s offerings on social media.
As for shoppers, she encourages people to bring cash, in small increments, because not all vendors will accept cards.
Also, reusable grocery bags are handy to pack home the goods.
