Pine Eagle’s Hunter Buck top seed in state wrestling tournament

Pine Eagle wrestler Hunter Buck will compete in the Class 1A/2A state wrestling tournament this weekend at Portland’s Memorial Coliseum.

Buck, a sophomore, is the top-ranked wrestler in that division at 106 pounds. He is 25-1 this season and won the district tournament Feb. 11.

At district, Buck opened by pinning Talan Pedro of Echo/Stanfield in 44 seconds.

In the quarterfinals Buck beat Frankie Beam of Grant Union/Prairie City by major decision (10-0), and in the semifinal round he pinned James Royes of Enterprise/Wallowa in the third round.

In the district championship match, Buck beat Culver’s Cole Roff by a 10-9 decision.

Buck, as the top seed, earned a first-round bye at the state tournament and will wrestle Adam Palanuk of Oakridge in a quarterfinal match. The date and time hasn’t been set.
