Congratulations to Baker City’s new Mayor Beverly Calder and our new Baker City Councilors.

I understand that our city’s former mayor, who last year moved to Salem, penned on Facebook her disapproval of the results of last week’s Baker City Council meeting. She lectures local Republicans that she’s disappointed they’ve lost political control of City Council.

In her Facebook post the former mayor ignores the fact that all Baker City Councilor positions and, by the way, all Baker County Commissioner positions, are by law nonpartisan. That means, former mayor, that when running for those positions, the County Clerk does not even ask for party affiliation.

Of course the former mayor, who was a BHS student of mine decades ago, knows what nonpartisan means.

But I’m enjoying again lecturing my former student.

Move on, Kerry.
