The city painted a crosswalk at the intersection of Auburn and Fourth Street, but it’s a deficient measure: That intersection desperately needs a 4-way stop to check speeding drivers.

The past year there’ve been at least three accidents at this intersection, including a rollover and a hit pedestrian who was taken to the hospital; I’ve removed multiple car-struck pets from Auburn between the train tracks and the next stop sign, downtown.
The intersection is highly trafficked by children from South Baker Intermediate and Baker Middle School a few blocks away. Under the best conditions I have seen kids jump out of the way of speeders flying down Auburn, and with winter comes low light, slick roads, and poor visibility.
Given the city’s inability to maintain sufficient emergency medical services, do we really want to play Russian roulette with our local kids at this intersection? Put in a stop sign.
