The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) reported that a 70-year-old Baker County man died Nov. 15 at Saint Alphonsus Medical Center in Boise after testing positive for COVID-19 on Nov. 9. The presence of underlying medical conditions is being confirmed, according to OHA.

It is the 31st COVID-related death in the county during the pandemic, and the first since Oct. 28.

The death comes amid a three-day spike in COVID-19 cases in the county. There were 10 cases on Monday, Nov. 15, seven cases on Tuesday, Nov. 16, and 11 cases on Wednesday, Nov. 17, according to the Baker County Health Department. The three-day total of 28 cases exceeds the weekly total for the previous two weeks — 24 cases from Nov. 14-20, and 20 cases from Nov. 7-13. Those were the lowest weekly totals since mid-July.

The Health Department has scheduled a drive-thru vaccination clinic for ages 12 and older, for COVID-19 and for the flu, on Friday, Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Baker County Events Center, 2600 East St. Entrance is off Campbell Street.
