John R. Shenfield, 35, of Portland and formerly of La Grande, died Aug. 28. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Island City Lighthouse Pentecostal Church. An obituary is forthcoming. Loveland Funeral Chapel & Crematory is handling the arrangements.
Marvin Lee Cunningham
February 20, 1943 – August 28, 2019
Marvin Lee Cunningham, 76, passed away at Grande Ronde Hospital, surrounded by family on August 28th after an extended illness. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family.Marvin was born on February 20th 1943 in La Grande to Dona and Vernal Cunningham. He was raised in Cove and La Grande. On August 23rd 1963 he married the love of his life Marjorie Hoffman where they continued to reside in La Grande.Marvin was an avid outdoors man who loved to spend his time hunting, fishing and taking pictures of wildlife. Many of his fishing and hunting trips included his family and when he was not in the mountains he was enjoying time with his family and was known to always have a story or good joke or two to tell. He worked at Boise Cascade in La Grande for 40 years where he worked in the Planer and was a jack of all trades.Marvin is survived in death by his wife of 56 years Marjorie, daughters Christina Cunningham, Leann and Mike Hall. Grandchildren Joe (Maria) Herndon, Nikie (A.J.) Hansen, Steven (Renee) Herndon, Rian Thompson and five great grandchildren. Siblings; Velma Leitch, Richard “Sonny” Cunningham, Dale Cunningham, Danny Cunningham, Cindy Vanderbloom, Dallas Cunningham, Sheila Turnley and Darin Cunningham. As well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents Vernal and Dona Cunningham, Brothers Duane and Dennis Cunningham as well as a great granddaughter.Marvin’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday September 7th with the internment of his ashes at 2pm at Grandview Cemetery followed by a potluck style reception at his and Marjorie’s home located at 2004 1/2 East N Ave in La Grande starting at 3pm. Casual dress is requested, please contact Nikie Hansen at 503-867-1590 to let her know what dish you will be bringing or to find out what dishes are needed. The family would love to hear your memories of Marvin and of the times you spent with him during the celebration, if you are able to do so.
