Marches planned to demand sustainability, accountability LA GRANDE — The community is encouraged to add their voices in demanding change by participating in upcoming marches. On Sept. 20, a Union County Climate Strike march is planned as part of a student-led global campaign to focus attention on the climate crisis. Local concerned citizens are asked to leave school or stop work and meet at 8:30 a.m. Friday at Max Square in La Grande. The group will walk to the Union County Clerk’s office on Fourth Street to join the demand for a sustainable world. Email nicholasduvernay@gmail.com for more information.
On Sept. 21, Union County Progressives and friends will join in the national We the People march, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Union County Clerk’s office. The march will proceed downtown to Rep. Greg Walden’s office (across from the post office). Participants may bring signs and posters to leave for Walden. According to the U.C. Progressives, “We the People are marching to remind our elected officials that they work for us. We are marching because the current regime is a threat to our democracy and values. We are marching to demand accountability. Silence and inaction are complicity.”

Gun club hosts free .22 benchrest match
LA GRANDE — The La Grande Rifle and Pistol Club is hosting a .22 benchrest match Sept. 21. The club holds free matches for .22 long rifles on the third Saturday of the month. Sign-in begins at 8:30 a.m. and the match kicks off at 9 a.m. For more information, call Dick at 541-963-8624.
