Dorothy E. (Jefferson) Erickson

Formerly of La Grande 1918-2019

Dorothy E. Erickson, 100, formerly of La Grande, died Sept. 6 in Fountain Hills, Arizona. At her request, there will not be a service.

Dorothy was born Dec. 16, 1918, in Augusta, Montana, to L.F. and Charlotte (McKay) Jefferson. Her grandparents, Charles H. and Rosalie (Baart) Jefferson, were early Montana settlers who homesteaded near Saypo outside Choteau. Dorothy was the valedictorian of her high school class in Orofino, Idaho.

Dorothy and her husband, Carl, owned the Shell Oil distributorship and service stations in La Grande. They both had an avid interest in golf and were longtime members of the La Grande Country Club, where Dorothy once won the women’s club championship.

Dorothy was an accomplished bridge player and will be fondly remembered by her family for her finesse at cribbage and gin rummy. She was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in La Grande.

Surviving relatives include her daughter, Jean C. Whiteman; sons, Jon A. Erickson and James R. Erickson; one sister; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, one sister and two brothers.

Barbara A. Roberts

Enterprise 1949-2019

Barbara Ann Roberts, 70, of Enterprise, died Aug. 29 at Wallowa Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 17 at the Enterprise Christian Church, followed by a meal at the VFW Hall. Bollman Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.

A lifelong resident of Enterprise, Barbara was born March 19, 1949, to Charles and LaValle (Eckley) Roberts. She was deeply devoted to her family and friends and cherished both immensely.

Barbara served in different positions during her employment career and once worked on the culinary staff at Wallowa Memorial Hospital. She was very proud of her membership in the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Eastern Star, having served in different positions within the two organizations. Barbara also volunteered for the community center. She was a parishioner of the Nazarene Church and the First Christian Church of Enterprise.

Surviving relatives include her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Linda Roberts of Connecticut; sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Randy Wink of Texas; nieces, Lisa (Roberts) Moran and Brittany (Wink) Jordan; nephews, Brian Wink and John Roberts; aunts, Agnes Roberts, Mary Howerton and Georgie Waits; and a host of cousins.

Donald Keenan

La Grande

Donald Keenan, 84, of La Grande, died Sept. 10 at a local care facility. An obituary is forthcoming. Loveland Funeral Chapel & Crematory will be handling the arrangements.

Jerry M. Johnson

Union

Jerry M. Johnson, 73, of Union, died Sept. 7 at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Blue Mountain Conference Center, in La Grande. An obituary is forthcoming. Loveland Funeral Chapel & Crematory is handling the arrangements.

Raymond R. Rode

La Grande

John (Johnny) Randolph Shenfield

Portland

1984-2019

John (Johnny) Randolph Shenfield, 35, died August 28, 2019 in Portland, Oregon. A celebration of life and reception will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church in Island City, Oregon beginning at 3 P.M.

John was born January 7, 1984, in La Grande, Oregon to Sandy and Randy Shenfield. He joined sister Kassie. Even in early childhood, John’s caring, fun-loving, and adventurous spirit were apparent. His wonderful laugh was infectious, something that friends continue to talk about. As a four year old boy, John often met the senior bus to help an elderly neighbor on and off the bus. John attended Heidi Ho Kindergarten, Greenwood Elementary, and Riviera Elementary schools. He also participated in cub and boy scouts in La Grande, Oregon.In 1995, John moved to Oxbow, Oregon residing primarily with his mother Sandy, stepfather Steve, and sister Kassie. While living in Oxbow, John attended Halfway Elementary School. During his 8th grade year at Halfway Elementary, John was on the honor roll. John loved the outdoors. He excelled at a multitude of outdoor activities including trap shooting, snowboarding, riding ATVs/Motorcycles, snowmobiling, knee boarding, water skiing, and hunting. During his middle school years, John was given a german shorthair who he named “Addy”. Addy slept in John’s bed nightly and they enjoyed many chukar and quail hunts. One memorable archery season ended with John shooting his deer from a rowboat. John was an athlete and participated in wrestling, baseball, basketball, golf, and discgolf. He attended La Grande High School, residing during those years primarily with Randy, stepmother Jana, and sister Kassie. John graduated from La Grande High School in 2002 and attended Eastern Oregon University for a time. During his high school years, he could be seen driving his blue 1968 mustang that was impeccably restored by John’s grandfather, Richard (Dick) Shenfield, Jr.John’s employers often remarked about what a hard worker he was and how fun he was to be around. During high school, he worked for Idaho Power on their summer crew. He later worked for Wendy’s, Installer for La Grande Stereo and Music, Northwood Trailer Manufacturing, Chevron (in Albany Oregon), Hampton Paving, and most recently at Sterling-Pacific (in Portland, Oregon). John was universally liked by his coworkers. At Sterling-Pacific, John worked on a crew handling commercial roofing and waterproofing. In that position, he worked on all types of buildings including high rises.John loved his family, he was a special son, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew, and cousin. John is survived by his parents and stepparents Randy and Jana Shenfield of La Grande, Oregon and Sandy and Steve Omann of Richland, Oregon. His sister Kassie Shenfield Reynolds of La Grande, Oregon and stepsister Christa (Shane) Rogers. Nieces and nephews Austin, Kimmy, and Kelsie Reynolds; Breanna (Mckenzie) Kruse and daughter Dallas, Daniel, and Danika Rogers. Aunts and uncles Thorny and Dorothy Hampton of Richland, Oregon and Richard and Karalee Shenfield of Post Falls, Idaho.John was preceded in death by his grandparents John Hampton, Jean Hampton, Sharon Shenfield, and Richard Shenfield Jr.John will be laid to rest at Grandview Cemetery in La Grande, Oregon.
