Keith Wortman

Wallowa County 1929-2019

Keith Wortman, 90, of Wallowa County, died July 4. As he requested, there will not be a service. His ashes will be laid to rest in the niche wall at the Enterprise Cemetery.

Keith was born May 1, 1929, on Diamond Prairie near Wallowa, the fourth son of Ord and Ruth (Colpitts) Wortman. Throughout his 90 years, he lived in many places including spending most of his childhood on Powwatka. He attended the Powwatka School through the eighth grade and then attended Wallowa High School.

When he was 16, Keith’s parents bought the Imnaha Store and he moved with them to Imnaha. It was there that he met his future wife, Janis Warnock, daughter of Jesse and Hazel Warnock. Not long after they met, Keith enlisted in the U.S. Army and served 1950-1953, including serving overseas in the Korean War.

Keith and Janis were married April 10, 1954. For most of their married years, they resided in various parts of Wallowa County, but they also lived in Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico and Washington, as Keith followed various construction and logging jobs.

Keith operated heavy equipment and owned logging trucks, and he loved being able to work outside and in the woods. He and Janis always had a large garden, and they enjoyed being able to grow and preserve their own food. Keith also enjoyed hiking, berry picking and wood cutting. In addition to being in the outdoors, his greatest joy was playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In their retirement years, Keith and Janis traveled throughout the United States, living for four years in their RV. They visited 49 states and five Canadian Provinces in that time, hiking and exploring all the way.

Surviving relatives include his wife of 65 years, Janis; children and their spouses, Becky Wortman of La Grande, Diana Wortman of Enterprise, Mary and Jerry Hope of O’Fallon, Illinois, and Thomas and Nelly Wortman of Lawton, Michigan; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Judy Wortman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ord and Ruth; brothers, Lynn, Lowell, Elmo and Pat Wortman; and grandson, Lance Strickland.

Memorial donations may be made to Friends of the Enterprise Cemetery.

Amy J. Lively

Formerly of Union

Amy Jo Lively, 57, of Hood River and formerly of Union, died July 8. A celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m. Aug. 3 at her sister Joni Capp’s home, 1658 Jeanette Road, Hood River. Milton ‘Randy’ Erickson

La Grande 1945-2019

Milton “Randy” Erickson, 74, of La Grande, died July 19 at Grande Ronde Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 24 at the Elgin Methodist Church with a potluck to follow. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center.

Known as Randy, he was born July 16, 1945, in La Grande, to Milton Herschel and Lorrene Bernita (Horn) Erickson. He attended Elgin schools, graduating from Elgin High School. Randy grew up attending the First Christian Church in Elgin and later went to the Methodist Church.

Randy worked as a chef. His most recent position was with Harrah’s in Reno, Nevada. In 2009, he returned to La Grande from Reno in 2009. Randy enjoyed music and played the piano, accordion, organ and keyboard. He was also an oil paint artist and woodworker and made more than 100 quilts, many for charity.

Surviving relatives include his brother, Tony Erickson of Union; nephew, Adam Erickson; and niece, Sheri Lou Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Marvin and Ed Erickson.

Cora ‘Jean’ Knight

La Grande

Cora “Jean” Knight, 84, of La Grande, died July 25 at her residence. An obituary is forthcoming. Loveland Funeral Chapel & Crematory will be handling the arrangements.

Kevin S. Harvey

Formerly of La Grande 1964-2019

Kevin Scott Harvey, 55, of Dufur and formerly of La Grande, died July 18. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:30 p.m. July 27 at the Cove Ascension School.

Kevin was born Jan. 27, 1964, in Portland, to John and Sharon (Sample) Harvey. He resided in La Grande; Fort Carson, Colorado; Fort Lewis, Washington; Nampa, Idaho; Fort Vancouver, Washington; and Dufur. Kevin attended La Grande Middle School and graduated from La Grande High School. He married Constance Anne Morrison.

Kevin was employed with La Grande Albertsons, P & L Associates, La Grande, U.S. Army retired 22-1/2 years, 15 years with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where he was a National Trainer for Rigging and Cranes. Kevin received numerous awards during his years with the Army. He also received the prestigious Recruiting Ring and the highest award given for recruiting, the Glen E. Morrell Award.

His family always came first, but Kevin also enjoyed hunting, fishing, old cars and barbecuing. He loved to cook and wanted everyone to enjoy his food.

Surviving relatives include his wife of 36 years, Constance; son, John Harvey of Pendleton; daughter, Jammie Harvey of Dufur; parents, John and Sharon Harvey; brother, Sean Harvey of La Grande; brother and sister-in-law, Erik and Soni Harvey of La Grande; sister and brother-in-law, Kelley and Steve Gray of Caldwell, Idaho; father-in-law, Raymond Burgett of Cove; five grandchildren; eight nieces and nephews; and aunts, Betty Harvey and Diana Campbell.

He was preceded in death by his uncle, Mike Harvey; “mom”/mother-in-law, Patricia E. Burgett; and grandparents, Emery and Frida Sample and Art and Elinore Peppin.
