LG School Board special meeting scheduled

LA GRANDE — There will be a special meeting of the Board of Directors of the La Grande School District July 30. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the District Office Conference Room, 1305 N. Willow St. The purpose of the meeting is to interview candidates for a vacant board position: Position 5, Zone 3 (within the city limits of La Grande).

EOU Board hosts public reception in Ontario

ONTARIO — The EOU Board of Trustees’ annual reception will be held July 31 at the Four Rivers Cultural Center in Ontario. Mayors, business leaders, local representatives, educators, regional stakeholders, alumni and community members will gather with the EOU Board for a public reception beginning at 5 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided. Workshop open to storytellers and listeners

LA GRANDE — Art Center East invites the community to a free story- telling workshop from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 31 at ACE, 1006 Penn, La Grande. This no-pressure evening is intended to provide an introduction to the enjoyment and empowerment of community storytelling. Observers and listeners age 10 through adult are welcome. Extension office temporarily relocates to fairgrounds

LA GRANDE — The Union County OSU Extension Service Office will be relocating to the Union County Fairgrounds July 31-Aug. 2, so that employees can work at the county fair. To contact staff during this time, stop by the OSU Extension Booth or the 4-H Office. Voice messages may be left at 541-963-1010. The office will be open again at the usual place on Aug. 5.

Military rifle match held in Enterprise

ENTERPRISE — The Eagle Cap Shooters Association is hosting a military rifle match at the Eagle Cap shooting range, north of Enterprise, on Aug. 3. Registration opens at 8 a.m. and the match begins at 9 a.m. for military rifles with iron sites or scopes, or both with different rifles. Cost is $15 for each entry (40 rounds per rifle, per entry). Learn about the impact of the B2H transmission line Friday

LA GRANDE — The Stop B2H Coalition is holding a free informational gathering at 6 p.m. Aug. 2 at Grande Ronde Retirement Residence, 1809 Gekeler, La Grande, to discuss the impact the proposed Boardman to Hemingway power line will have on the community and the surrounding environment as well as what can be done about it.

The Stop B2H Coalition is a non-political, grassroots organization of individuals and organizations that share the goal of halting the proposed B2H transmission line through Northeast Oregon. B2H is a 500kV line that will connect Boardman to Hemingway, Idaho. The proposed line will consist of 1,200 towers as high as 200 feet, spanning 305 miles, and requiring a minimum 250-foot-wide clearcut. The proposed route of the electrical towers is within sight of La Grande and crosses the Grande Ronde Valley.
