LHS classes of 1956-1958 reunite

LA GRANDE — Members of the La Grande High School classes of 1956, 1957 and 1958 will meet for a joint reunion Aug. 10 at Beeman Park in Island City. Public invited to comment on proposed ATV ordinance

LA GRANDE — The Union County Commissioners will conduct a third reading on the proposed ATV ordinance Aug. 7 beginning at 10 a.m. in the Joseph Building Annex. Public testimony will be accepted at the hearing. The ordinance would allow most of the roads administered by Union County to be used by all-terrain vehicles.

Free sports physicals offered in August

UNION COUNTY — Families with children in fourth through 12th grade may take advantage of free sports physicals at Grande Ronde Hospital’s clinics. College students will receive a discount of $50 on physicals at the clinics on any of the scheduled free sports physical days. Call ahead for more information or to make an appointment:

Fresh Foods grand opening celebrated all day tomorrow

LA GRANDE — Market Place Fresh Foods, corner of Fourth Street and Adams Avenue, La Grande, is having its grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony Aug. 3. The celebration begins at 8 a.m. (or, 7:30 a.m. for yoga on the roof) and goes all day. The ribbon cutting will be held at 11 a.m. Throughout the day, there will be samples, a barbecue, $4 draft pour specials and a jam session in the bistro. A free wine tasting happens between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., and Pendulum Swing performs on the rooftop from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Training, discussions focus on poverty

LA GRANDE — Northeast Oregon Economic Development District is hosting events Aug. 6 and 7 focusing on poverty. Erica Tucker, MSW, will facilitate “Who Are the Deserving Poor?” at 7 p.m. Aug. 6 at Cook Memorial Library, 2006 Fourth St., La Grande, and again at 7 p.m. Aug. 7 at Building Healthy Families, 207 E. Park St., Enterprise. Part of the Oregon Humanities Conversation Project, both events are free and open to the public. Registration is not required.

On Aug. 7, Tucker will lead an “Understanding Poverty” workshop for volunteers, boards and staff members to learn, share and discuss DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) methods and strategies from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Island City Hall, 10605 Island Ave. Tucker will challenge participants to raise their consciousness of what poverty looks like in their community.
